Waterbury police are searching for a man they say exposed himself to three young girls and tried to convince a fourth to enter his car.

Edgardo Lopez, 29, of 45 Bergin Circle, faces a slew of charges stemming from four separate incidents.

Last Friday, a 10-year-old girl was walking on Radcliffe Avenue in the city's East End when a man in a dark-colored car called to her. The girl, a student at nearby Chase School, walked to the car, where police say the man exposed himself to her.

The next day, police said, the same man in the same car was on Overton Avenue, also in the city's East End, when he tried to convince another 10-year-old girl to get in his car. The girl refused.

This week, detectives in unmarked cars conducted surveillance near Chase School.

On Tuesday, police said detectives saw a black Ford Mustang with a driver who matched the description of the suspect. Detectives tried to stop the car, but the suspect fled and escaped because the detectives were in a surveillance car without lights and sirens and couldn't give much of a chase, police said.

Detectives did jot down the car's license plate number.

The Mustang was tracked to a rental car company, which said the car had been rented to Lopez.

Police said the two girls then identified Lopez from photo arrays. Detectives also used photo arrays to link Lopez to two other exposure cases.

On Feb. 8, police said, a man in a light blue car exposed himself to a 12-year-old girl at the corner of Lounsbury and Baldwin streets in the city's South End, and later to another 12-year-old girl on upper Congress Avenue, near Highland Avenue in the city's Town Plot neighborhood.

The two 12-year-old girls also identified Lopez this week from photo arrays, according to police.

On Wednesday, police obtained warrants charging Lopez with three counts of indecent exposure, four counts of risk of injury to a minor, and four counts of second-degree breach of peace. Authorities also obtained a warrant charging him with failure to obey an officer.
