Biography- Sergeant Michael Slavin

Sgt. Slavin began his career with Waterbury Police Department in August of 1995.  He spent the first seven years of his career in the Patrol Division.  In 2003, Sgt. Slavin was assigned to the Gang Task Force where he was instrumental in the arrest of numerous gang members and the seizure of dozens of illegal weapons throughout the city.

In January of 2005 he was promoted to Detective where he served in the Criminal Investigations Bureau.  In February 2006, Sgt. Slavin was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to the Patrol Division.  He was later assigned to the Criminal Investigations Bureau where he currently serves as the evening shift supervisor.

In April of 2007, Sgt. Slavin was investigating a larceny complaint at Riverside Cemetery.  As a result of his investigative ability, he was able to identify a suspect who had broken into several caskets of the deceased and stole property. Sgt. Slavin later obtained a sworn confession from the suspect which ultimately led to a guilty plea and a lengthy prison sentence.  His diligence and resolve resulted in a timely conclusion to one of the more disturbing cases in recent memory.

This is one of many valuable contributions that Sgt. Slavin has made to the Detective Bureau over the past year. He has been involved in the successful investigation of virtually every major crime during 2006-07 including homicides, robberies and other serious assaults.

Sgt. Slavin has proven to be an effective leader during his tenure in the Detective Bureau.  He is a mentor to newer detectives and a tireless worker. He has the rare ability to balance all aspects of supervision and continually achieve outstanding results.  It is these qualities that espouse excellence and illustrate the choice of Sgt.
