Video Camera Registration

Video Surveillance Program

The Waterbury Police Department is asking residents and business owners to register their privately-owned surveillance camera systems, on a voluntary basis. As our police officers and detectives respond to criminal incidents within our jurisdiction, they may be able to use security camera footage to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of the criminals involved. Please read the Video Surveillance FAQs below to learn more about the program.

Many Waterbury residents and business owners operate surveillance systems at their homes and/or businesses that record both public and non-public areas. As crimes occur nearby, they are not always aware that their camera system may have captured information that could help the police solve a crime. Likewise, law enforcement is not always aware of who may have this potentially helpful information.

There is no fee to register, and your information will be kept confidential. This is not an active surveillance program being operated by our department, and our department will not have direct access to any of the registered private camera systems by you registering your video surveillance equipment with this program. The completed registration form and the information provided will be housed in a secure network and your information will be kept confidential.

The video surveillance registration program will help our officers and detectives quickly identify nearby cameras that may have captured criminal activity. After registering your camera, you will only be contacted by the Waterbury Police Department if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of your security camera system. Our officers and detectives, if necessary, may request to view your camera footage in order to assist in an investigation. By registering your video surveillance equipment, you can help to make our neighborhoods and businesses safe and make these locations undesirable for criminals to commit crimes.

The Video Surveillance Registration form will ask you to provide contact information as well as basic information about the location and recording areas of your cameras. You can unsubscribe from this program at any time. If you have more than one location within Waterbury that you would like to register,  please submit separate forms for each unique address. After completing the form please follow directions on the bottom of the form to submit it.

You have the option to either fill out the electronic form found below or download and print off a physical form to deliver to the front desk of the police department.
