Detectives and School Resource Officers (SROs) work together in partnership with other agencies toward upholding the mission of the Juvenile Division, which is to work with our youth in the least coercive manner possible. And whenever reasonable Juvenile Division members will take those measures necessary to affect positive changes for juveniles that are consistent with the safety and security interests of the City of Waterbury and applicable state laws.
One of the main goals of School Resource Officers (SRO's) is to strive to develop positive relationships with the students, teachers and faculty of their respective schools. The presence of an SRO in a school building may positively influence the behavior, actions and choices of students.
Waterbury Police Department's SRO’s have continued to be role models and mentors for numerous students at their schools, providing positive interaction and communication between the police and the city's youth.
The SRO’s have also played a major role in gathering intelligence and forwarding that information to the Criminal Investigations Bureau to assist in juvenile-related crimes.
