Strategic Leadership in Criminal Investigations

The Deputy Chief of Investigations provides strategic leadership for the investigative operations of the Waterbury Police Department. This role oversees the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned units, ensuring that investigative services are efficient, effective, and aligned with departmental standards. The Deputy Chief also recommends and administers policies, evaluates service delivery methods, and sets staffing levels to meet the needs of the community.

Deputy Chief Responsibilities

Manages All Criminal investigations

Includes the Detective Bureau, the Vice and Intelligence Unit, the Youth Squad and the Forensic Unit.

Plans, Directs, and Reviews Work Plan

Responsible for all the assigned staff including those with extended hours and 24/7 operations.

Assigns Work Activities and Projects

As well as reviews and evaluates methods and procedures and meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.

Monitors and Evaluates Community Programs

As well as sets priorities and policies for assigned programs and makes recommendations for revisions regarding ordinances as necessary.

Role as an Advisor

The Deputy Chief serves as a key advisor to the Chief of Police, providing input on matters affecting the department’s operational functions. At the discretion of the Chief, this role conducts special studies, manages high-priority projects, and assists in shaping strategic initiatives that strengthen the department’s investigative capabilities.
