Public Information Officer
The Public Information Officer (PIO) is a sworn member of the Waterbury Police Department, appointed by the Chief of Police, who serves as the department’s central point of contact for news and public communications. The PIO ensures accurate, timely, and transparent information is shared with the media and the community, reinforcing the department’s commitment to openness and trust.
Public Information Officer Duties
Media & Community Relations
Maintains strong working relationships with local media organizations and community partners to ensure the public receives important updates.
News Coordination
Covers routine news stories, coordinates press conferences, and ensures media have access to accurate and authorized information.
Crisis Communications
Acts as a communications liaison between department members, external agencies, and the public during emergencies or major incidents.
Information Management
Coordinates the release of approved details about investigations, operations, and public safety initiatives in alignment with department policies.

Social Media Officer
The Social Media Officer manages the Waterbury Police Department’s online presence, working to strengthen communication and engagement with the community. Operating out of the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) under the direction of the Public Information Officer, this position is responsible for creating and sharing timely, informative, and positive content across all official social media channels. From highlighting department initiatives and community events to providing real-time updates and public safety information, the Social Media Officer helps foster transparency, build trust, and showcase the work and achievements of the department.
