Highly Trained Partners in Policing
Patrol certified police K-9 Shepherds are certified in tracking, searches, evidence recovery, apprehending suspects, obedience, and handler protection. This type of K-9 certification means the police K-9 can track human odor, search for missing people, suspects, and any evidence of a crime that might have been discarded. The other type of K-9 certification is narcotics certified. Narcotics certified K-9 Shepherds are certified in detecting and alerting to the presence of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. All of these K-9 Shepherds are also utilized in community-related events such as demonstrations and meet and greets.
K-9 handlers have a huge responsibility in training and caring for their partners all day, every day. K-9 police dogs help police officers serve and protect the City of Waterbury making it a safe place to live and work.
