Waterbury Police Cadets

The primary mission of Waterbury Police Cadets is to expose young adults between the ages of 13-21 to the field of law enforcement. The program will do the following:

  • Give insight into police work
  • Provide a positive alternative to negative influences
  • Develop responsible youth
  • Encourage academic excellence and leadership
  • Promote teamwork and volunteerism

Participants will work with both civilians and sworn officers of the Waterbury Police Department. The program is designed to give them a realistic overview of law enforcement so that involved youth can make an informed decision as to whether or not they want to pursue a career in law enforcement. Cadets wear uniforms and are given classroom instruction and participate in physical exercises in order to mirror what is required in the law enforcement field. Qualified personnel give instruction in a strictly controlled environment to enhance youths' knowledge of law enforcement in a safe environment.

Additionally, there are a couple of dedicated police officers and civilians who devote their time and energy toward the success of this program for our Waterbury youths. This displays how strong of a commitment the Waterbury Police Department has to the community and toward maintaining positive and strong relationships with the community.
