Enhancing Safety Through Bicycle Patrol

The Waterbury Police Department proudly operates a dedicated Bicycle Unit, made up of officers who are all certified through the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA). Each officer receives specialized training in accordance with department standards and IPMBA criteria to ensure safe, effective, and community-focused policing.

Improving Access and Visibility Across Waterbury

The Bicycle Unit plays an important role in enhancing visibility and accessibility throughout the city. Officers handle patrol activities, traffic, and parking enforcement as requested, and routinely patrol alleyways, parking lots, and other areas that are not easily accessible by patrol vehicles. Their presence provides a high level of visibility, helping to promote a safe and secure atmosphere for citizens, visitors, and local businesses.
