Dedicated to Animal Welfare in Waterbury

The Waterbury Police Department’s Animal Control Division enforces state and municipal laws related to dogs and other companion animals. The division also provides a safe shelter for abandoned and unwanted pets and works to find them new, loving homes through adoption.

Whether responding to calls about stray animals, addressing public safety concerns, or assisting with pet adoptions, Animal Control plays a key role in protecting both animals and residents in our community.

Adoption Services

Animal Control offers animals for adoption to residents of Waterbury and surrounding areas. Adoption hours are:

  • Monday–Friday: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm (excluding holidays)
  • Saturday & Sunday: By appointment only

Nuisance Wildlife

Animal Control primarily responds to domestic animal issues and does not remove nuisance wildlife such as deer, squirrels, skunks, raccoons, or opossums. However, if wildlife appears sick or injured, please contact Waterbury Animal Control (Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm) or the Waterbury Police Department (after hours).
