Waterbury Police Officer Appointed as City's First Female Deputy Chief

On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the Waterbury Police Department held a promotional ceremony at City Hall. Chief Fernando Spagnolo and Mayor Paul Pernerewski Jr. were present to recognize and honor our newly promoted Deputy Chief Nadine Amatruda.

This marks another historic moment for the Waterbury Police Department, as Deputy Chief Amatruda was sworn in as the City of Waterbury’s first female deputy chief of police.

Throughout her career, Deputy Chief Amatruda has served in numerous leadership roles and divisions within the Waterbury Police Department, including Support Services, Inspectional Services, the Internal Affairs Division, the Community Relations Division, the Criminal Investigation Bureau, the Sex Crimes Unit and the Patrol Division.
