Crime Intelligence and Enforcement

The Waterbury Vice and Intelligence Division is comprised of two major components, the Vice Squad Detectives and Street Crimes Unit Officers. The Vice & Intelligence Unit is responsible for collecting and disseminating drug-related criminal intelligence information. Over the years, this division has created many partnerships with outside agencies in effort to combat trends and methods of criminal activities the City of Waterbury faces.

Vice Squad

Vice Squad Officers are responsible for investigating narcotic-related crimes, gang activity, crimes of prostitution, liquor violations, weapons offenses, and gambling. Vice Squad Officers collect and develop information regarding individuals and groups of individuals involved in criminal activities.

Crime Prevention Unit

This unit works proactively to identify crime trends, develop prevention strategies, and engage with the community on safety initiatives to reduce opportunities for criminal activity. The primary goal is to establish safety and security within Waterbury neighborhoods for everyone. 

Gang Task Force

The Waterbury Police Department's Gang Task Force investigates criminal offenses committed by known gang members. The Gang Task Force unit is tasked with tracking and maintaining gang membership and affiliations. The unit investigates crimes of violence and narcotics violations committed by members of criminal street gangs. The unit works with both state and federal law enforcement to target and suppress gang activity.
