AUTO THEFT TASK FORCE ARRESTS MAN OPERATING STOLEN DIRTBIKE

On December 17, 2025, officers assigned to the Waterbury Police Department Auto Theft Task Force were conducting active patrols in the area of Silver Street when they observed a red dirt bike being operated on a city roadway. Officers conducted a traffic stop and detained the operator, later identified as Samuel Baez, age 26, of Waterbury, for illegally operating an all-terrain vehicle on city roads.

Further investigation revealed that the dirt bike, a 2007 red Honda CRF250, had been reported stolen out of Southbury. As a result, Baez was placed under arrest.

Baez was charged with the following offenses:

Illegal Operation of an ATV

Unregistered Motor Vehicle

Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (1st Offense)

Possession of Motor Vehicle with Changed ID Number

Illegal Operation of Motor vehicle with Insufficient Insurance
